What the Scottish Parliament Does

The Scottish Parliament has responsibility for most of the day to day issues affecting people's lives in Scotland including health, education, justice, housing and community regeneration, economic development, transport, sport, art and culture, and the environment.

Committees sit on Tuesdays afternoons and Wednesday mornings, and parliamentary debates take place on Wednesday afternoon and all day Thursday. Mondays and Fridays are set aside for constituency work.

Visit The Parliament

The parliament aims to be as open and accessible as possible. You are welcome to visit the parliament and watch proceedings in the debating chamber or in the committee rooms. It is advisable to book for some popular events such as the weekly First Minister's Questions (usually 12pm on Thursday).

For more information on booking go to the visitor services section of the Scottish Parliament website.
