Somerville is Seeing Red this Friday

Shirley-Anne Somerville, Member of the Scottish Parliament for Lothians (SNP) will be asking Edinburgh to join the British Heart Foundation’s Wear Red Day this Friday (26 January 2010).  People are being urged to bake red cakes, paint their face red or anything red related that will highlight the healthy heart campaign.

February is national heart month and schools, organisations and individuals are being encouraged to go red for the day.  The BHF Scotland use this month to highlight that keeping active, eating healthily and being aware of the dangers of alcohol and smoking can make a huge difference in preventing heart disease.

Ms Somerville said:

“I will be proud to wear my BHF red for heart pin badge this Friday in support of the campaign for change to improve the health of our hearts through the BEAT code."

“I have easily incorporated BEAT into my lifestyle with taking the stairs instead of the lift and eating more fruit.  Simple steps can improve you and your family’s heart health."

“Every donation to the BHF Scotland will help save lives through pioneering research, patient care and providing vital information.”

The Beat Code stands for:
Be active
Eat healthily
Avoid smoking
