Demand for Allotments Soars well into Four Figures- Somerville Says Both Public and Private Bodies Can Help

With a new council document showing that several thousand people will now need to wait between four and nine years for an allotment in Edinburgh, Shirley-Anne Somerville, Member of the Scottish Parliament for Lothians (SNP), has called for public bodies and large private companies to consider making land available to help ease the shortage.

Somerville Urges Edinburgh Galleries to Move Quickly for Extra Funding

Shirley-Anne Somerville, Member of the Scottish Parliament for Lothians (SNP) is urging Edinburgh’s famous galleries and museums to make sure they take advantage of a new pot of funding being made available by the Scottish Government.  Culture Minister Fiona Hyslop has announced a further £750,000 for capital projects to be distributed by Museums Galleries Scotland – but eligible museums must apply in the coming weeks as specific awards will be made as early as the spring.

Somerville Seeks Reassurance on Future of Union Canal

Shirley-Anne Somerville MSP has called for reassurances about the future of British Waterways.  2,200 miles of Britain’s canals are owned by the organisation, including the Union Canal in Edinburgh.  But a recently published UK government document suggests that serious consideration  has been given to the privatisation of the canal system.

More Cash From Crooks to Fund Edinburgh Youth Projects

Lothians SNP MSP Shirley-Anne Somerville has congratulated the Edinburgh based youth organisations that are to receive grants from the latest round of the Scottish Government’s Cashback for Communities Scheme. A total of £71,185.00 is being awarded to 14 Edinburgh projects.
